A Beautiful New Pumpkin & a Really Good Friend

Despite having returned from a horse show last weekend I find myself a bit ahead of the game…I have just posted this week’s dinner journal entry AND I have next week’s menu finished & the grocery shopping done!!!

I am SO excited about this coming week’s menu…as I was pouring through recipes this week, the dinners just seemed to jump off my computer screen & fall into place.  Menu in hand, I set off for the market today, determined to free ourselves from visiting a grocery store this weekend!  I am so fortunate to live where I do…farmers’ markets galore, the bounty of specialty foods available close-by in San Francisco and  Mill Valley Market just a few minutes away.  I can’t say enough about this neighborhood, family-owned market.  Their produce is outstanding & the meat department is the REAL deal…a gourmet butcher shop.  The wine shop is wonderful, the customer service spectacular and…well, I digress…

As I was entering the market today I saw this pumpkin…

Yes, it is real, but I had to touch it to make sure.  It looked as if it could be painted ceramic.  The colors and textures were too enticing to pass by and this lovely specimen was the first item in my cart.  I have a dear friend who is an amazing artist and I thought to myself as I was securing this little treasure…Linda could paint this perfectly!

In honor of my new-found treasure I share with you my favorite Pumpkin Bread recipe from Paula Deen.  And of course, I needed to make a loaf for breakfast tomorrow…

My beautiful new pumpkin was not harmed in the making of this bread…

As I was taking the picture of this beautiful new pumpkin for this post, my phone rang…almost as if she felt me thinking about her, my friend Linda was on the other end of the phone line!  Mind you, she lives almost two hours away & we haven’t seen each other in about a year…and there we were, on each other’s minds at the same time!  I love how that happens…

It is truly amazing how true friends can connect, over the passage of time, as if it were yesterday.  Her call was the highlight of my day!  We are planning a girls’ day in a few weeks with a few other DEAR friends…I cannot wait to see all of them!

Since Linda is on my mind I must tout her horn…this woman is truly the most gifted artist I know & very special person.  I am privileged to have a giclee of a piece of work she did a few years back…it is hanging off my living room & each day as I pass this magnificent piece I think of this talented woman…

This piece is but a small frame of a huge wall canvas she did.  The subject here is an elephant she photographed on safari in Africa.  Please note:  this art is NOT a photograph but a painting based off a photograph. Please visit her at Linda Schroeter.com.  Her work will amaze you!

WOW…that was so much fun doing a short post!  I contain myself all week preparing for a single post of a week’s worth of dinners.  It is a treat to post spontaneously!

Enjoy the weekend!
