Rainy Days & Mondays…

All night I listened to the rain & wind hammer against the windows…the first real rain of the season.  The Bay waters, even here in the little cove of Belvedere, were angry & despite the raucous of the wind and pounding rain you could hear the clinking of the mast lines from the sailboats just beyond our windows.  I pulled the comforter over Michael & I and drifted back to sleep…

The rain was still coming down in sheets when the alarm went off, signaling Monday’s arrival.  Michael usually enjoys a short walk to the ferry but this morning Madison would be dropping him off at the dock on her way to the barn to ride.  As for me, I had the rare pleasure of enjoying a rainy Monday morning home with Max & Mallory…courtesy of a staff development day at their school.  My mug of coffee tasted better this morning.

By 9am the skies had cleared and the sun cast a blanket of diamonds over our rain-soaked surroundings…the water, trees, sidewalks…everything was sparkling.  Madison phoned to say she was on her way home.  A power outage at school forced the cancellation of classes for the remainder of the day.

THIS is a rare treat!  The kids and I are all home together during the day.  Years ago, when they were infants and toddlers, I couldn’t imagine a time like this but here it is & the years keep going…SO FAST.  I had work to do, chores to be done…but I was NOT going to let this opportunity pass!

With a well-stocked picnic basket in hand, the kids, the dogs & I made the short (10 minutes) trip out to Rodeo Beach…

Here are a few glimpses from our afternoon…

The clouds you see in the pictures above continued to grow bigger & darker throughout the afternoon.  By 4:30pm, it was clear the rain would be returning so we made our timely departure.  Just as we were pulling into our driveway it began to rain…

DINNER

While the kids showered I started a fire and put together our simple dinner…roast beef sandwiches & homemade cranberry sauce.  I had made a wonderful roast beef (and gravy!) for Sunday dinner yesterday so all I had to do was take the leftover roast and thinly slice on our deli slicer.  The cranberry sauce was a quick condiment. (Check out my weekly blog post this Saturday, Oct. 27th for all the recipes)

We ate our sandwiches in front of the fire…

These precious moments given to me today…I embrace, I savor, I CHERISH.  What a magnificent Monday!!!
