I am often asked how I put my weekly menus together.  Well, after 5 years of planning & journaling our dinners {this blog may only be 8 months old but I began this process on August 17th, 2008} I can break it down into two easy steps…reading and taking notes.  I read {a lot}…books, cookbooks, magazines, blogs…and take notes on what looks interesting to me.  I have taken a few pictures of my journal pages from over the years and, as you can see below, it really is a process, albeit a rudimentary one…

By Friday, I usually have a good idea of our menu for the week ahead and set off to the farmer’s market on Saturday morning with my list.  My menu is not rigid but rather a guide…if I see something at the market that catches my eye {extraordinary peaches, blueberries or rhubarb} I will certainly go “off-list” and make changes in our menu.  And, as you saw this week, I sometimes even change my mind a few hours before dinner.  But for the most part, the weekly menu is my “strategical dinner plan” , allowing me to feed my family a home-cooked meal while we enjoy precious family-time despite the chaotic schedules of a family of five.

Wishing you all a Wonderful Week!
