A few notes on this week’s menus…

SUNDAY:  One of my Mother’s Day gifts was a set of bamboo steamers {a 10-inch size & a 6-inch size}.  I have never used a steamer before but it was the children’s attempt to entice me to make more of these.  The day, or so, after I received this lovely gift Heidi Swanson at 101 cookbooks posted this.  Well, her timing & her pictures could not have been more perfect.  For Sunday Dinner, we will be grilling lamb and steaming fresh broccoli, cauliflower, snap peas, asparagus & carrots finished with a drizzle of shallot oil.

MONDAY:  I have an abundance of fresh basil these days so, naturally, a pesto is in order.  Cherry tomatoes, baked with a topping of homemade, herbed breadcrumbs will round out this simple Monday dinner.

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY:  Cooking from a cookbook that you love is fun.  Cooking from a cookbook to which you have a personal connection…well, that is a joy!  Duskie Estes & her husband John Stewart have been long-time friends.  In fact, it was Duskie & John that got me hooked on the “eat local” movement. We have enjoyed SO many extraordinary meals in their restaurants {Zazu & Bovolo} located in Sonoma County as well as in their home {the BEST BLT parties ever!}…BTW, John makes his own Black Pig Bacon.  More than a few years ago, Duskie gave me an autographed copy of a cookbook she worked on with the famous chef, Tom Douglas…

Tonight & tomorrow night’s dinners, whole or in part, will be prepared from this wonderful cookbook…a gift from very dear friends.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY:  Well, we are off to another horse show.  This time we do not have to travel far…the whole family is headed to Woodside, CA…just South of San Francisco and home to Stanford University.  We won’t be doing the traditional Memorial Day BBQ but, if you are so inclined, please share your holiday weekend highlights…I would love to live vicariously through your  “start of summer” celebrations.

Have a Great Week Everyone!
